(Los Angeles, California – December 22, 2017) The Los Angeles Airport Police continue to bolster security at the second busiest airport in the nation. In a graduation ceremony held today at the LAPD Elysian Park Academy near Dodger Stadium, LAPD Academy Class 7-17 with 45 graduating officers, were sworn in to service and now make the transition from civilian life to a noble life of public service.

Officer Courtney Hamilton, a former college track and field athlete, 200 meter runner and graduate of California State San Bernardino is the latest to join the largest aviation law enforcement agency in the country. Officer Hamilton brings her team building experience and good work ethics to the Airport Police on a personal mission “to make a positive impact on society.”

Los Angeles Airport Police Chief David L. Maggard Jr. spoke to Officer Hamilton and her family and said, “It’s a proud day for you and your family and it is my hope that this feeling of pride will follow you each and every day of your career.” Chief Maggard then swore-in Officer Courtney Hamilton as the newest member of the Airport Police Division.

The new graduate will now begin a six-month Field Training Program specific to airport law enforcement under the guidance of a field training officer before being assigned to the Patrol Services Section at Los Angeles International Airport.

In addition to its nearly 550 sworn officers, the Los Angeles Airport Police includes 430 security officers and nearly 200 civilian professional staff. As the largest aviation law enforcement agency in the nation, the Airport Police patrols and secures the third busiest commercial airport in the U.S, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Van Nuys (VNY) airports.
